Company Section

Our Company Section is for boys and girls between the ages of 11 and 15. We meet on Monday evenings between 7:30pm and 9:00pm. The programme includes:

  • Crafts
  • Badge work

Members of the Company Section work towards earning badges. We follow the Discover Programme for this age group. This programme has four levels (one for each year in Company Section) and three zones:

Discover Logo
  • Community – provides opportunity to learn about and make a difference to the world around us.
  • Recreation – provides opportunity to be adventurous and develop confidence through an active and healthy lifestyle..
  • Skills – provides opportunity to learn new skills and display creativity.

Each zone is divided into four sub-zones and sub-zones are further divided into topics. Doing a topic for one hour earns one point towards a badge.

The compass badge is for new members of the Section and can be earned in their first term when 2 points have been earned from each zone. Each year members can earn a badge for the appropriate level of each of the programme zones. To be awarded a badge for a zone, a point has to be earned for each of the 4 sub-zones and additional points from any of the sub-zones (3 points for the Community and Skills zones and 6 points for the Recreation zone).

At the end of their second year members can earn their Discovery Badge if they have accumulated a total of 30 points and have earned Community, Recreation and Skills badges in the last 12 months. At the end of their fourth year they can earn their President’s Badge which is the Brigade’s second most prestigious badge. Members in Year 10 are encouraged to register for the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award Scheme (at Bronze level).

The Company Section, Senior Section and Amicus Group usually join together for outdoor activities in the summer and for summer camp. Activities have included kayaking, sailing, windsurfing, rowing, mountainboarding, orienteering, dry-slope skiing, swimming and games in the park.

Senior Section

Our Senior Section is for young people between the ages of 15 and 18 who want to remain in uniform and complete their Queen’s Badge. They can be members until the end of the session in which they reach their 18th birthday, unless they are appointed staff sergeants, in which case they can remain members until the end of the session in which they reach their 19th birthday. We meet on Monday evenings between 7:30pm and 9:30pm. The programme includes some of the same activities as the Company Section, but Seniors are expected to take on more of a leadership role in these activities. The Seniors normally join up with the Amicus Group at 7.45pm on Monday evening for a joint programme, although those who are appointed as Staff Sergeants may stay with the Company Section in a leadership role. The Seniors and Amicus Group make use of the BB’s Challenge Plus programme for this age group. It consists of a series of challenges and projects in which Seniors participate and can earn points. The Programme has three zones:

Challenge Plus Logo
  • Community
  • Life Skills
  • Recreation and Leisure

Members of the Senior Section earn points for challenges and projects towards their badges. They can earn a badge (either Bronze, Silver or Gold) each year depending on the number of Challenge Plus points they have earned. Members are encouraged to register for the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award Scheme (at Silver or Gold levels) and the Queen’s Badge, which is the Boys’ Brigade’s highest award.

The Company Section, Senior Section and Amicus Group usually join together for outdoor activities in the summer and for summer camp. Activities have included kayaking, sailing, windsurfing, rowing, mountainboarding, orienteering, dry-slope skiing, swimming and games in the park.

Amicus Group

Our Amicus Group is for young people (male or female) between the ages of 15 and 19. Some have joined the Amicus Group directly, without having been members of the Company Section, often to participate in the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award Scheme or they may have reached the upper age limit of the Company Section and have opted to not wear uniform or gain further badges in the Senior Section. The Amicus programme makes use of some of the BB’s Challenge Plus programme material for Seniors with its three zones:

Challenge Plus Logo
  • Community
  • Life Skills
  • Recreation and Leisure

All BB activities organised locally (some of which are heavily subsidised) or nationally are open to Amicus members. All members have an equal opportunity to contribute to the running of the group. Amicus is less prescriptive than some of its counterparts and its members have a greater say in what happens and when. Groups determine their own programme which is structured, progressive and demanding. A typical evening would include studying the Bible for a short time together, then focussing on some project work as a team and finally enjoying some games and activities as a group. Members are encouraged to register for the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award Scheme (at Bronze, Silver or Gold levels).

The Company Section, Senior Section and Amicus Group usually join together for outdoor activities in the summer and for summer camp. Activities have included kayaking, sailing, windsurfing, rowing, mountainboarding, orienteering, dry-slope skiing, swimming and games in the park.
